The Spanish government is paying compensation to victims of Hurricane El Niño, including former workers of the construction firm that built the dam where the spillway was built, the National Transportation Authority said in a statement.

The compensation will be paid to those affected by the El Niño weather, the statement said.

In addition, the authority is sending a team of experts to El Niño-affected areas to help with disaster planning, it added.

The authority is working with state and local authorities to provide assistance to those impacted by the storm.
