More than $10 million of the Philippines’ total annual GDP was generated by the government last year, the highest per capita income in the world, according to data compiled by the World Bank.
But the Philippines is the world’s second-highest earner, behind only the U.S.
The United States earned $14.4 billion in 2015, while the Philippines earned $5.6 billion, according the report.
The U.K. and Japan are the only two nations to have annual GDPs above $1 billion, and the Philippines had $1.4 trillion in GDP in 2015.
The Philippines, which is in the midst of a brutal war on drugs, is currently facing a crippling economic recession and is grappling with the aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan.
